New In-line Splitters Allow Protected Multiway Breakouts From Vehicle Wiring Harnesses
New in-line splitter from Harnessflex is the first of its kind in the market to offer protected multiway breakouts in the tight confines of vehicle engine compartments. Initially developed to solve a particular problem for a Canadian vehicle manufacturer, the in-line splitter replaced bulky T pieces on the individual lights used on the rear of the vehicles. The solution proved extremely effective and as a result of the success Harnessflex introduced the product to its range of specialist conduit systems designed to route and protect electrical cables in the wiring harnesses of vehicles. Available through the range of 16-32mm flexible conduit systems the in-line splitters can have 4, 6, 8 or 12 outlets, depending on the requirement, making them extremely versatile and totally adaptable to the space constraints found today in vehicle engine compartments. At the breakout point the in-line splitter securely holds the smaller diameter conduit in place providing complete protection for the vehicle wiring. The fitting is rated to IP40. ?As a device the in-line splitters offer the opportunity not only to route complex cabling to remote areas of the vehicle, but also to provide a high degree of protection for exposed areas of a vehicle,? explained Bob Rudd of Harnessflex. ?This is particularly appropriate on heavy vehicles such as diggers, tippers and agricultural applications.? A derivative unit can also be used in the Harnessflex sealed system product range offering an IP rating of IP68 at 2bar for 30 minutes. This is finding use in safety critical applications for example on emergency crash tenders and airport fire appliances.
