Problem Solving Solutions From Harnessflex On New Connector Interface For CumminsA new single piece elbow fitting from Harnessflex for Deutsch DTP04 interfaces makes injector servicing easier and eliminates the need for two-piece fittings.
From an original application, specialist conduit systems manufacturer Harnessflex has developed a new fitting for Cummins. Its use allows clear access for servicing, while eliminating the requirement of a second 90° fitting taking cost out of the project.
The new fitting has been developed for use on fuel injectors across the top of the engine. The original, two-part fitting with a straight back, used to foul the fuel feed pipe when the interface was removed for servicing. To overcome this problem, Harnessflex has designed a fitting that has a chamfered back, which allows sufficient space for easy removal of the connector.
Because the new fitting is a single-piece it also overcome any potential problem with losing one of the halves of the original fitting dropping down through the engine bay and becoming unrecoverable.
This work has also led to the development of a second fitting designed to snap into the outlet of 16mm hinged 'Y' or 'T' pieces as well as elbows and joiners in the Harnessflex range. This can easily accommodate a variety of applications and is suitable as a breakout for connector interfaces.
Manufactured in Nylon polyamide 6.6, the fittings are black, are suitable for continuous operating temperatures from -40ēC to +120ēC and have a nominal pull-off rating of 200N. They are specifically designed to fit Harnessflex slit and unslit flexible conduits, including standard weight polyamide, lightweight polyamide, modified polypropylene and deep section polypropylene.
"We are able to develop solutions for many automotive applications. This can be further enhanced when we can make use of the benefits offered by modular tooling," explained Bob Rudd of Harnessflex.
The Harnessflex specialist conduit system offers a high degree of protection to cables and particularly the increasingly popular thin wall cable. In such circumstances the systems not only provide protection, but also strain relief for the harness in total. This is particularly suitable on HGVs, PSVs, trailers, diggers, tippers and agricultural vehicles.
